about
Most of this record sat unfinished for years. “Reverse” began during disillusionment; I was upset about the path music had taken me on and regretted following it to the detriment of so many other aspects of my life.
During that time, I began experiencing chronic pain along the right side of my body; pain that had me walking with a limp for 5 months and a short time later unable to play piano or guitar.
My life turned into physical therapy and doctors’ appointments. I was in a bad place for what seemed like forever. Yet, somewhere along the way I learned to accept that I wasn’t going to magically wake up healed. I had to want to get better; physically, emotionally and spiritually. Between wanting to walk and play piano I made a decision to stop telling myself I couldn’t do all the things I’d always wanted to and what I thought was expected of me (among them: grow my hair long again and be a part of the music community). I finished the second verse of “Reverse” (hello album title…) and found a melody and lyric in the chorus to push back against all the negativity in this song and album. I’m finishing and releasing this song and album to be free of the bad things, because I’m still working every day to feel better.
